Nicole Robinson

Somatic Coach, SEP

I’m grateful to you who has landed here on my website. Welcome! I hope that we get the opportunity to do some work together.

It’s an honor to have the opportunity to guide others into deeper relationship with their bodies. Centering the body and the nervous system has been a huge part of my own healing journey. Somatic work has been one of my greatest supports in teaching me to relate to my inner landscape, from the places braced in stress and fear all the way to the vast, relaxed inner wisdom and vibrant life force energy.

Somatic work connects us all and weaves together the body and breath of the individual with that of the collective. I’m grateful that my own healing journey led me to offer this support for our community.

I am a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and I welcome and affirm others in this community. It is important to me that I create a safe space for you. My pronouns are she/they.

I live on the unceded lands of the Piscataway and Tuscarora people sometimes called Frederick, MD. I love walking in the woods, putting my hands in soil, reading, making music and art, and connecting with community in hopes of creating a more supportive and beautiful world.

My Story

Before I got into healing work, I spent my college years working in animal hospitals and studying to be a veterinarian, then shifted focus to environmental biology. In my 20’s I worked in environmental advocacy, sustainability, permaculture, & ecological farming. I was exploring and wanting to help, while trying to come to terms with the injustices we face in this world. I wanted to bring people into deeper connection with nature & each other.

That journey was taken to a whole new level when I got incredibly sick at age 27. A near death experience, hospitalizations, Lyme disease, other infections, medical trauma… I was taken to the inner landscape of my own physiology, my body, spirit, soul, and emotions. It was a dark and long chapter, but one that also had light and catalyzed a gradual transformation into who I am now. All of that studying of anatomy & physiology back in college sure did come full circle as I looked to the universe within me to understand how I might be able to heal. In fact, so much of what I spent my earlier life exploring - health, biology, physiology, art, nature, living systems, social systems, music, spirituality, creativity - came into form anew in the work I do today.

Here are some of the biggest things I’ve learned about healing:

  • Our bodies are amazing and know how to manage so much for us, yet sometimes the cup of our capacity gets too full and overflows. When this happens, we need to focus on our healing. Our unresolved past, and unmet emotions/needs/desires, have a tendency to make themselves known, and if we don’t find a way to listen our bodies will find a way to let us know. If we can trust this process, we can get better and so can life.

  • Faster isn’t better and it takes time and patience to heal.

  • When you stay true to yourself, listen to your body, & tune in with the rhythms of life you can organically create relationships & work that are sustainable, supportive, & life-giving. (You cannot force it or make it happen by sheer will).

Starting a New Chapter

At the time of getting sick, I was running a farm with my ex-husband. Within 2 years of my illness starting, we decided to close the farm, separate, & get divorced. While still healing from chronic illness, I started navigating the path toward what was next for a new career & calling. I worked for a couple of years facilitating respite care for teens experiencing difficult home situations and mental health challenges and worked part-time supporting an agro-forestry non-profit. I studied, tried many different healing modalities, practitioners, & treatments. Eventually I enrolled in various training programs & started working with my own clients.

Let me tell you, I was hesitant to embark upon another entrepreneurial journey after my previous one ended in illness, burn out, financial loss, and divorce. However, I was also listening to my body, my heart, & my intuition. The life I felt and saw for myself still wasn’t a regular 9-5 job. It was my own creative exploration and continued willingness to push the edges of what is “normal” in order to stay true to my values and help the world heal.

To me it’s been a gradual process of remembering what it is to be alive and in relationship with myself and the natural world. Of continually de-conditioning from harmful systems of capitalism, patriarchy, colonization, white supremacy while still living within them. I look to nature often for some semblance of sanity. And so I look to my body too.

My body is nature, and has its own natural cycles. I like to live slower. I like to listen to my breath and feel my thoughts slow down while I sink into being here now. I don’t have to panic, rush, or force things to happen. I’ve enjoyed discovering more of who I am and what I care about by journeying through the highs and lows of this embodied human experience.

I’m grateful that everyday I get to guide others as they connect with their nervous systems and their bodies and explore their own truths. At the heart of all that is somatic healing, is the deep wisdom within us. Choosing to walk the path one day at a time and discover how we can further liberate and love ourselves, each other, and the world.

Inclusivity

I identify as queer and use the pronouns she/they. There is lots of space in my containers for you to be you.

How I Work

When I work with people, I do my best to be intentional, intuitive, compassionate, and attuned. I come to you as a human, and always aim to see you as a human too. Much of my style is rooted in my study of Somatic Experiencing® (having completed the 3-year Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner program), Mindfulness, Meditation, Coaching, Polyvagal Theory, Relational Somatic Work, Mind-Body Healing, Women’s Work, Embodiment, and Earth-Based Spirituality among other modalities.

But I hesitate to define myself by any single modality, because I am unique. Just like you. My 1:1 and group offerings have been created based on very real themes that many people experience, as well as tools and philosophies that often work. But my intuition, intention, and dedication to being with you in presence are some of my most special gifts that I continue to cultivate each day. So our work will be attuned and tailored to you, your body, your nervous system, your goals, your desires, & your dreams.

I am also passionate about larger cultural issues and am always deepening into my own deconditioning and how to hold space for others around issues of decolonization, anti-racism, anti-oppressive work, patriarchal norms, and capitalism, among other big system issues and how we are all impacted. Happy to explore the way these systems and histories live in your nervous system and walk the path of collective liberation together.

Can’t wait to meet you. Getting introduced to your own body and your own wisdom is beautiful, humbling, empowering, playful, profound, and life-changing.
